Glazed aura nails are the manicure trend you probably saw coming

Two of the most popular nail art trends — glazed and aura — have combined to create glazed aura nails, and the look is taking off across our socials.

started with Hailey Bieber’s donut nails — a light chrome finish lit up her solid pink mani, a concept dreamed up by nail artist Zola Ganzorigt — and the same effect has since added some shine to the basic French manicure and ombre nails. Now, glazed aura nails are gleaming in the spotlight.

Nail artist, Zola Ganzorigt, who first dreamed up glazed donut nails for Hailey Bieber has been leading the glazed aura trend. She previously created it on her client Jenna Dewan noting it’s “her new obsession” in the caption. And it didn’t take long for her followers to flood the comments, asking the nail artist exactly how she achieved the look.

Aura nails take inspiration from the colour pattern that is meant to indicate your energy or mood. The un-glazed version of the trend has been having a moment on its own lately (as seen on stars like Dua Lipa and Hailey Bieber). And the moody manicure even made its runway debut when nail artist JinSoon Choi created an “abstract aura manicure” for Christopher John Rogers.

To combine the two viral manicures, Zola favours an airbrush tool. The artist suggests airbrushing on two coats of a base colour before adding a lighter shade of the colour in the middle of the nail. “Gently spray the second colour using the airbrushing tool then top it with your chrome powder or top coat,” says Zola. She always reaches for Tin Man Can Chrome from OPI, which is only available in salons. (Zola is an ambassador for the brand.)

If you prefer classic nail polish, JinSoon recommends using a nail sponge dipped in polish to create the aura effect. “The first layer should be super light, the second layer should be a bit darker and smaller, and the centre dab should be the darkest to create an ombre effect for an aura look,” says JinSoon. To get the glazed effect, top the mani with a shimmering topcoat like Glowing Somewhere from Nails Inc.

The glazed aura manicures on our radar have been more on the neutral side, but we’re certain the shimmering effect would look just as sparkling on bright neon aura nails — after all the more colourful your aura, the better.
