Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult may have only just arrived on Netflix, but it’s all we can think about after devouring the three-part docuseries.
Offering a look into the worlds of former members of the talent management company 7M, the series unravels the secrets behind the alleged cult and the disturbing allegations against its founder Robert Shinn.
As is told through the testimonies of former 7M members, many were also members of Shekinah Church, an invite-only church at which Shinn preached. And among them was Miranda Wilking.
Miranda’s story is at the heart of Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult, with the series following the Wilking family as they express their concerns for their loved one, with them “desperately trying to get their daughter out”.
Through the series we also learn about Miranda Wilking’s husband, James Derrick (AKA BDash), also a former 7M member, with the pair having denied being part of a cult.
But are Miranda Wilking and James Derrick still together now? Here’s everything we know about the couple.
How did Miranda Wilking and James Derrick meet?
As is covered in Dancing for the Devil, in April 2019 James “BDash” Derrick, a successful dancer, sent Miranda and her sister Melanie a DM.
The three bonded over their mutual love of dancing, collaborating on a dance video together before making a group chat. Eventually, however, Melanie was removed from the group and BDash and Miranda Wilking continued speaking regularly, with their relationship going from there.
The pair began dating, with James even staying with the Wilking family through the Covid-19 pandemic. Later on, the two both joined 7M.
When did they get married?
Following two years of dating, in August 2021 Miranda Wilking and James Derrick announced their engagement in an Instagram post with the caption:

“I said YES!!!💍 Words cannot explain how overwhelmed with joy I am. James, you are more than anything I’ve ever dreamed of and I am so incredibly excited that we get to spend our lives together. I remember the first day we met, I fell in love with you and just could not picture spending any of my days without you. It’s as if our love story was already written into the fabric of my life. You are my best friend, my confidant, my teammate and partner. You have continually proven to be such an incredible man inside and out and I love you so much. A month later on 5 September the pair shared a video of them dancing in Last Vegas with the caption “What happens in Vegas…🤍✨” , clearly alluding to the fact that the couple had got married, though this was never officially confirmed.
Are Miranda Wilking and James Derrick still together now?
At the time of writing, Miranda Wilking and James Derrick are still very much together, with the pair regularly posting dance videos with one another.
In May 2022 when allegations were being made that the couple were part of a cult, Miranda told The Cut “I am not held against my will and I’ve never been a hostage. I go to church and I have faith in God. If one day I wish to pursue my faith elsewhere, I will and feel completely free to do that.”

Miranda explained, “As far as my career, my time at 7M Films has been one of the most exciting years ever and if one day I wish to partner with a different management company or start my own company, I will. No one is forcing me to do anything. I am excited to move forward in this incredible walk with God, an amazing marriage and exciting career. I’m also looking forward to moving past all of this and mend my relationship with my family privately.”
In a statement posted to his Instagram Story, James (BDash) also denied the allegations, writing: “First of all … there’s two sides to every story. This is the other side of the Wilkings family drama. It started with a white beautiful woman moving in with a poor Black man from Compton that the parents did not approve of. I get it! I was renting a room and had no car. I was a divorced man with a son.”
He added, “This company is not a religious non profit organisation but a secular for profit company run by people who have faith in God.”
